There are two routes from Mount Isa – see map below.
The long way is approximately 450 km from Mount Isa, through Cloncurry, Quamby and Burke & Wills Roadhouse. This is a bitumen road all the way to the Gregory Hotel. Petrol and snack stops along this route are at:
BURKE AND WILLS ROADHOUSE ( Threeways) – Petrol, drinks, meals, snacks, toilets etc. Accommodation available.
THE GREGORY HOTEL – Bush pub, drinks, meals, snacks, petrol, ice (sometimes be quick)
The short way is to head towards Camooweal from Mount Isa for approximately 120 Km and then turn onto the part-bitumen road that heads towards Burketown for approximately 200 km. This route is not advisable for conventional vehicles. The road can become quite rough, with corrugations and occasional bull dust, though if driven with care is fine. There are no petrol and snack stops along this route until you arrive at the Gregory Hotel.
